Unscheduled Wanderings

"Real travel requires a maximum of unscheduled wanderings, for there is no other way of discovering surprises and marvels.."

Alan Watts

Location: Cliffs above Praia do Canal
Temp: 17° high today, 19°c
Clear skies

Just sitting, gazing out from the western cliffs..
I can see the lights of distant ships on the horizon, a single star or planet as night falls, and the relentless crashing of the waves as they continue their ceaseless toil on the rocks far below.

I have today begun my journey north, alone, a solo trip with very little modern communication is the plan. No Facebook, messages, or non-essential communication. I will, however, put my thoughts down on the blog as I go along, somewhat as a personal diary.

Last night, on the south coast we had an extreme thunderstorm, right overhead, bright flashes lighting up the inside of the van, and violent booming thunder. Rain lashed down for hours, but today by noon I was sitting on the beach with a friend and our dogs, watching the first surf schools of the season getting underway.

I have a date to sail from Santander in north Spain, but between here and there exists only time and my imagination, tonight only memories of many times here and the sounds of the sea..
