On the road! | Gairloch to Glencoe, Loch Etive | Winter 2017

Glencoe from Clachaig

8.00am Monday,
high 10°, low 0°c
Loch Etive, Glen Etive
Bright morning
Distance covered: 164 miles

It's early morning here on the shore of Loch Etive, a place I have not visited before. I knew it was to be a cold night, the first of the year, and I knew it'd be even colder here at sea level by the loch. But we are on our way to warmer climes!

My seasonal job in Wester Ross finished on Friday, and I'd already spent an hour or two on Thursday evening prepping for a hassle free exit on Friday. Living in the van there's never much to do to move on - no packing that's for sure, everything is always with us. A load of laundry, and put the bike rack on should do it.

On Friday night after our journey east along the now familiar shore of Loch Maree and then south to Lochcarron, we slept at the viewpoint overlooking the loch, one of my favourite views in the highlands.

Walking in Glencoe

On Saturday it was on to Glencoe via Fortwilliam where I got to pick up a few things in Lidl & Morrisons. It might not seem special, but I've only been to a supermarket twice in the last six months.

I had a good meal and a pint in the Clachaig Inn in Glencoe to round off the day, and stayed on for another couple as high energy folk duo, Mad Ferret, were playing that night..

Then on Sunday, after a long walk in the woods we ventured down into Glen Etive where we still are this chilly Monday morning. The live map to the right of your screen, if you're viewing the non-mobile version of the webpage, is now being regularly updated as we move on, so you can follow out progress there.

Thanks for following along!

Get in touch if you're in my vicinity.

Have a good one!
