Streets of León, Spain

4:58pm, Friday, 18°c

I saw my first snow today, albeit on the horizon beyond León..

Rio hits the streets..
The run up from Bragança to León is an easy one. There's no border post en route, and once across the river into Spain things change quite markedly. Road surface, road signs and the surrounding scenery morph into something quite different as Portugal fades into the past.

There is some quite beautiful forest and rural scenery just into Spain, but within an hour I was on a big motorway, and with no hills it's easy to chew up the kms.

Just back from a walk around the centre of León. For me this was just an overnight on my route north to drive through the Picos de Europa mountain range, but I thought I'd take a look at León's centre, see the gothic cathedral and get the feel of the city. Rio will enjoy the walk too. He's not used to being in a city, and this one has many people walking dogs like any Northern European city - he was mostly well behaved, although of course wanting to meet 'n greet every dog he sees, surprised by the number of them.

Fighter plane in the middle of a roundabout.. Why not?

We've been staying at a very central spot. One corner of a car park by the river has been set aside as an 'aire' for autocaravans. There is a water supply, but you have to lift a manhole cover and have the right threaded connector for the tap underneath on your hose. The rest of the car park is pay and display but for us its free for one night stays only. Great walks right next to here as well for the dogs along the riverbank. I'm sure there is a lot more to see in the city, but I'm ready to get back into the backwoods again..
